the themes universal
love lost found n screwed up
and drivin trucks
but through it all
gorgeous musicianship
sublime piano playing from bill payne
who played with james taylor after this
they're pretty unknown outside the US and word-of-mouth communication
but you can trust me freends
this is gold

the debut solo album
after crowded house
technology galore
samples abound
songwriting gift still in tact
darkish moody
experimental
not for every day
but hey
you know i love neil
and this is not
a disappointment

bought this like most people
for heart of gold
but needle and the damage done
will change your life
the arrangements
the sounds
the lyrics
the band
all came together on this album
typically after this
neil stopped playing this style n sound
and went more edgy
but this was one great moment
in music history

i bought this to play while i was writing in the mornings
kilbey loved it
so do i
this Italian guy (i think)
makes sounds from organic pots in clay n wood n wire
records it all in high quality analogue sounds
in his castle!
i play this some mornings still
and to my class when they have free time
or writing time
they call it the blood music
because of the drop like sounds scattered throughout the tracks
but it is unlike anything you will have heard
it will change you
slow you
heal you

Mad Men 101

Thanks to a conservative blog for peace I have become quite intrigued by with US series “Mad men”. For most Australians this is quite an unknown program, the second series being premiered this Sunday night on specialized broadcaster SBS, leaving us well behind the US which is currently airing the fourth series. For those who don’t know, Mad Men takes place in the early 1960’s, varying its setting between the main characters Advertising office workspace, their homes and social lives. As the series progresses we discover that the characters are not at all what they seem, both outwardly and inwardly, as we journey with them through the historical events and changing social patterns which have influenced so much of our modern culture. It is this historical element which captured me. The ways husbands, wives and children inter-related. The constant smoking and drinking. The more relaxed pace of life. Infidelity and the subsequent risks and consequences. Psycho-analysis just beginning
